Two shows in February

This is my year for studying the classics. Among other things, I have begun a series of master copies, all drawings so far. One, which I am calling Love's Dart, is on view here, in honor of the Valentine show coming up at Frame of Mind (next to Cafe del Mundo on Benson.)

The show opens on First Friday, Feb 1. My piece will be available there, along with several other artists' works. This particular drawing is copied from a painting. It is drawn from a small detail of a work by the French 19th c artist Bouguereau. The original painting is titled Young Girl Defending Herself from Love, and is viewable at the Art Renewal Center website (or just follow the link by clicking on the title.)

Another new piece, Duct Tape v. Gravity, is going to the International Gallery of Contemporary Art on D Street downtown, for the invitational show entitled "Attachments." The event is in partnership with the Alaska Design Forum Lecture Series, which shares the "Attachment" theme. The show runs from February 1 through March 6, with the usual First Friday festivities.

This is the fifth year I have been included in the UAA juried self-portrait show, No BIG Heads! If you haven't seen the show, hurry over to the Campus Center Gallery on the UAA Campus. The show closes on November 15. My piece is oil on copper, entitled Self with Copper Ore.

21 Pieces at Alaska Fine Arts Academy

Twenty-one pieces, some very recent, some very early, are currently on view at the Alaska Fine Arts Academy, located at 12340 Old Glenn Highway, Suite 200 (second floor of the AIH building) in Eagle River. The school offered to show the work as a preview for my artist talk, at Jitters, 7 PM on Friday, September 7th. For those unfamiliar with Eagle River, Jitters is a coffee shop located at 11401 Old Glenn Hwy. If you are in Eagle River in the next two weeks, please drop by the Academy to view the show. They are open from 10 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday, and 9 AM to noon on Saturday. I would love to see you at Jitters on the 7th as well!

Meet me in Homer, see Demo, Fireweed Gallery

On July 20 and July 22 I will be at Fireweed Gallery in Homer for a "meet the artist" event and painting demonstration. If you are in Homer, please come by the gallery. I will be demonstrating my technique for still life oil painting. See an original painting come to life!

Solo Show at the Whale's Tail

Please join me for an evening of art, food, and jazz at the Whale's Tail, in the Captain Cook Hotel. The booths are comfortable, and I will be in one, hoping to meet you. Carol Lambert, New Work: 2006 - 2007 will be opening on Friday, July 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The live jazz begins at 6PM and goes until 10PM. It's a great place to relax, whether you are just starting or winding up your First Friday walk around town. The show will feature new landscapes, continuing my series on the Denali Highway, plus some new Still Life oils. I look forward to seeing you there!
